About Notace

The Notace Manifesto

We believe less is more - and purpose beats noise. We don’t chase trends. We don’t overbuild. We craft footwear that honors the way the body was meant to move. In a world overwhelmed by noise, we choose clarity. Every design choice, every material, every detail - considered, tested, refined. Because real innovation doesn’t shout. It endures. We stand for simplicity, functionality, and the freedom that comes from stripping away the excess. We build with intention. We design for movement.

We escape the noise, so you can too.

Founder's Story

Cedric’s journey in footwear began over a decade ago at a specialty running store, where he combined hands-on experience with academic research in running gait and biomechanics while completing his master’s degree. His passion for performance and movement led him through various roles in the industry, ultimately overseeing global distribution for leading footwear brands.

It was his travels to Japan that resonated with him the most. The culture’s design philosophy, precision, and values like Ikigai aligned with him. Clean aesthetics, intentional craftsmanship, and thoughtful living became guiding principles.

Recognizing a significant gap in the market for natural footwear, a space he had long been passionate about, Cedric took the leap. He launched Notace with a clear vision: to create footwear that honors natural movement while embodying the Japanese approach to design and detail. From the outset, he partnered with development teams in Japan, infusing the product creation process with shared values of simplicity, intention, and refinement.

Notace was born from this intersection of performance, philosophy, and precision—and continues to be shaped by the spirit of Japan.

Shoes for Every Activity

We believe in the power of natural movement. Barefoot-style shoes offer freedom, flexibility, and connection to the ground—benefits we fully embrace.

But we also understand hard, modern surfaces require more cushion. Whether you’re trail running over sharp terrain, logging long miles on the road, or playing high-impact sports like tennis or pickleball, you need more protection and comfort.

That’s where Notace steps in - redefining performance, function, and feel. We offer a shoe for each activity: true barefoot designs with maximum ground sensitivity with added cushioning and structure for greater comfort.

Why Notace?

Because today’s footwear market is polarized with either maximal, high-stack, overbuilt shoes or ultra-minimal, barefoot designs

Notace bridges the gap.

We serve two types of movers:

  • Those transitioning away from overbuilt footwear who want more connection and agility
  • Those coming from barefoot models who want added comfort and protection

Our approach is consistent across categories - road, trail, and court:

  • Moderate cushioning
  • Foot-shaped geometry
  • Low-to-ground stability
  • Natural flexibility

Who is Notace for?

Notace is for athletes at every stage: from first-time movers to high-level performers.

Our approach is to provide sufficient cushioning and protection, Eliminate excess bulk, and Maintain flexibility with low-to-ground stability.
The result is footwear that feels immediately comfortable while supporting long-term strength and performance.

It’s less than the market norm, on purpose.
Because more cushioning doesn’t always mean better movement.

Notace is designed to be accessible enough for beginners and technical enough for serious athletes.

One philosophy. Across trail, road, and court.

What are Notace shoes Designed For?

Every Notace shoe is engineered for a specific activity -  court, trail, road, or gym with performance as the foundation of design.

But we believe great performance products shouldn’t be confined to performance environments.

Our goal is to create footwear that performs at a high level while integrating seamlessly into

Are you a minimalist brand?

Notace footwear is designed around balance, not extremes.

Instead of maximizing cushioning or stripping shoes down to minimalism, we engineer each model with the precise level of protection required for its activity.

Our design principles:

  • Enough cushioning to handle real surfaces and sport demands
  • Low-to-ground geometry for stability and agility
  • Natural movement without unnecessary interference

Stack height and cushioning are determined by functional need, not marketing trends. The result is footwear that feels protective, responsive, and stable without overcorrecting in either direction.

We call this intentional performance.

What is foot-shaped?

Feet are not narrow at the toes. Shoes shouldn’t be either.

Notace footwear is built with a true foot-shaped design that allows natural toe splay and stability.

The experience should feel intuitive:

  • Step in
  • Feel comfortable immediately
  • Move without restriction

From there, the shoe acts as a performance tool that provides the protection, grip, and durability required for trail, road, or court.

Foot-shaped shouldn’t be a niche category. It should be the norm.

Why Flexibility?

The answer is simple.

Like every muscle in the body, when something isn’t used, it weakens. The feet are no different. When shoes restrict movement, they also limit function.

Feet are meant to bend, adapt, stabilize, and respond to the ground. When a shoe doesn’t flex, your foot stops doing the work it was designed to do.

That’s why flexibility matters.

A flexible shoe allows your foot to move naturally, to engage muscles, absorb force, and generate power the way the body intends.

What makes a shoe the right fit for someone?

The best shoe for you is one that you forget that it is even there. Notace is best understood through experience.

Many people don’t realize how much their footwear affects movement until they try something different.

Our design focuses on:

  • Lightweight construction
  • Natural flexibility
  • Immediate comfort

The result is a shoe that fades into the background during activity allowing the wearer to focus on performance instead of the footwear itself. The goal isn’t to feel the shoe more. It’s to notice it less.

Can I play multiple sports in a pair of Notace?

Notace is a multi-sport performance brand.

We design footwear across:

  • Road running
  • Trail running
  • Court sports
  • Gym training

While maintaining a unified design philosophy:

  • Balanced cushioning
  • Foot-shaped geometry
  • Flexible construction
  • Low-to-ground stability

Each model is tuned for its specific sport, yet versatile enough to integrate into everyday wear. Performance footwear that doesn’t require changing shoes between life and training.

Do Notace Shoes Protect Your Feet?

Absolutely.

Notace shoes are flexible, lightweight, foot-shaped, and low to the ground — but protection is always built in where it’s needed.

The level of cushioning and protection is carefully tuned for each activity:

  • responsive protection for the road
  • durability and impact protection for the trail
  • stability and responsiveness for the court

Flexibility doesn’t mean less protection. It means protection that works with your foot instead of against it.

What does natural movement mean?

At Notace, natural movement starts with respecting how the foot is designed to function.

It means three things:

  1. A foot-shaped toe box that allows your toes to splay naturally and create stability.
  2. A highly flexible shoe that lets your foot bend and move freely.
  3. A neutral, zero-drop platform. no elevation from heel to toe in order for  your body to stay aligned as intended.

The shoe works with your body, not against it.

What if I need a wide toe box?

We design our shoes around the natural shape of the human foot.

That means a true foot-shaped toe box, wide where your toes are naturally wide which allows them to splay and stabilize.

At the same time, the fit remains secure through the heel and midfoot. So you get freedom in the forefoot, and lockdown where it matters.

We don’t offer multiple width options.

Instead, we build one anatomically shaped fit. designed to match how feet are actually structured.

Room where you need it.Security where you want it.

What does the logo mean?

The Notace logo is a broken infinity loop.

It represents movement as a journey: one that begins, evolves, and reaches a finish line… only to begin again.

The open break symbolizes progression.
The flowing line reflects continuity.

Every effort has a start and an end.

But growth never truly stops.

Where does the Japanese influence come from?

We often talk about Japanese influence at Notace.

That started long before the brand existed.

Throughout my career, I spent a lot of time traveling to Japan. What stayed with me wasn’t just the culture, it was the craftsmanship. The way objects are made with care, precision, and restraint. Nothing excessive. Nothing accidental.

In Japanese design, simplicity isn’t the absence of detail. It’s the result of deep intention.

That philosophy shaped how we build Notace.
